The Federal Reserve Bank Building was completed in 1977 and is 614 ft (187 m ) high and 32 floors the third highest skyscraper of the city Boston at State Massachusetts of the United States . It stands on Dewey Square at the intersection of Fort Point and the Financial District . The main tenant is the eponymous Boston branch of the Federal Reserve Bank . The Boston Harbor , the Fort Point Channel and the Boston South Station are in the immediate vicinity .
In the lower area of the building there is a breakthrough through the building structure to allow gusts of wind coming from the sea through. As an architect, drew Hugh Stubbins Jr. of The Stubbins Associates, Inc. responsible. For more than 60 years, the designs of the Federal Reserve System buildings had shown strong resemblances to a fortress, which is why the new Boston skyscraper provided a stark contrast. The building is sometimes referred to as The Washboard Building or the Venetian Blind .
Architectural details
The building consists of two towers, between which the usable floors are to a certain extent "suspended". The facade consists on the front glass, the pages are separated by a curtain wall protected from the interstices of anodized is aluminum. These protect the building from the effects of the weather, keep out the sun's rays in summer and allow more light in the winter months.
The building has an auditorium named after the President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (1968–1988) Frank E. Morris . It was designed according to the needs of the bank, but it is also rented to the community for public events and lunchtime concerts. There is also a private garden above street level. The building was also the first one in the computer room switch the Federal Reserve Wire Network was installed.
