The Feilbach is a 9.8 km long left tributary of the Blies in the eastern Saarland , which flows into the old town . The older forms of the name are numerous and represent the main form of Fulenbach . 1564 is the stream in the upper reaches Höcherbach or Feulenbach , in the underflow Watsackerbach . In 1837 he was called Mutterbach. Kleinottweiler and the old town are in the catchment area of the stream .
course
The Feilbach rises on Höcherberg northeast of Frankenholz below the road from Frankenholz to Höchen in the district of Höchen at approx. 420 m above sea level. It initially runs steeply in a southerly direction before it joins the Blies from the left at the old town . The source area lies in the Kuseler layers of the Unterrotliegend . To the east of Oberbexbach , the brook cuts several small deposits of igneous effluent rock, olivine - andesite , so-called melaphyr , which are of volcanic origin. In the further course it enters the layers of the middle red sandstone , which is often found on the valley slopes.
The water-rich and deeply cut valley has served as a district boundary since ancient times, so it successively separates Oberbexbach from Höchen, Jägersburg and Kleinottweiler , and thus also the two cities of Bexbach and Homburg . The Feilbach has many small, good water-bearing inlets. The long-gone desert areas of Fulenbacherhof and Wadsackerhof, as well as several ponds that have been drained in the meantime and the two mills Hochwiesmühle and Woogsackermühle, which have now been shut down, lay on its course .
Usage history
In 1564 the geographer Tilemann Stella describes the brook as follows in his description and map of the offices of Zweibrücken and Kirkel:
“ The haubtbach in the 21st main ground is called the Höcherbach or the Feulenbach. It rises in the Feulenborn and fleust down next to Adweiler through a number of scales. And it is called the Watsackerbach and falls hard over the Limpacher bridge into the Blise, a part also falls through the Gickersgraben into the same Blise. The length of this brook was 7200 paces, which is 1 3/4 miles and 200 paces. "
Stella also records twelve ponds and five small tributaries in the catchment area of the stream. The hard stones of the andesite deposit cut near Oberbexbach were mined in the past in a small quarry that can still be seen today. A quarry driven into the middle red sandstone serves as the event site.
