Utz-Hellmuth Felcht (born January 8, 1947 in Iserlohn ) is a German manager and chemist .

Live and act

After completing school, he received the general university entrance qualification at the mathematical and scientific Friedrich-Bährens -Gymnasium in Schwerte (Ruhr) in 1966 and completed his military service as a reserve officer candidate until 1968 (last rank: first lieutenant ). He began studying chemistry in 1968 at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and received his diploma in 1973 from Saarbrücken University . In 1976 he did his doctorate with Manfred Regitz at the University of Kaiserslautern with a preparative thesis on 1- N -phosphorylpyrazoles: synthesis and phosphorylation reactions.

After his employment at Hoechst AG in 1977, he started out as a research chemist in the classic career until 1980 in the “main laboratory G 830”, then until 1984 he was in charge of Tylose research at the Kalle plant.

1985 to 1988 he held management positions in the ZDA of Hoechst AG , from 1988 to 1991 he was Executive Vice President of Hoechst Celanese Corp. in USA.

From April 1991 to September 1998 he was a member of the Board of Management, where he was responsible for the engineering plastics (GB B) and carbon products (GB O) divisions and the research department. As a staunch opponent of Jürgen Dormann's outsourcing policy , he left Hoechst AG in 1998.

In October 1998 he was appointed CEO of SKW Trostberg AG.

From 2001 to May 2006 he was Chairman of the Management Board of Degussa AG and a member of the Management Board of RAG Aktiengesellschaft . In 2007 he became a partner in the Frankfurt branch of the financial investor One Equity Partners .

Felcht is and was a member of the supervisory and administrative boards of various industrial companies. From 2008 to 2012 he was chairman of the supervisory board of Süd-Chemie .

On March 10, 2010, the federal government under Angela Merkel decided for the federal government, as the majority shareholder of Deutsche Bahn AG , to elect Felcht to the head of the committee at the new constituent meeting of the rail supervisory board on March 24, 2010. Felcht was the preferred candidate of the then Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer . He was initially appointed for five years, and in March 2015 his contract was extended. He was re-elected on March 18, 2015 by the newly constituted Supervisory Board of DB. Critics consider his work to be powerless and unsuccessful. Among other things, he had lost control of a supervisory board meeting in January 2017, at which railway boss Rüdiger Grube surprisingly resigned. Felcht rejected responsibility for Grube's resignation. He announced on November 24, 2017 that he would resign on March 31, 2018. Michael Odenwald succeeded him in April 2018 .

Honors

Felcht is honorary professor at the TU Munich and Jilin University in Changchun (China) and an honorary doctorate from the University of Rostock . He was chairman of DECHEMA , for his services he was awarded the DECHEMA medal in 2004 and honorary membership from 2008. He is also a member of the Atlantik-Brücke Association and a member of the Presidium of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the AFS Intercultural Encounters .
