Ferdinand Lion
Ferdinand Lion (born June 11, 1883 in Mulhouse , Alsace ; † January 21, 1968 in Kilchberg , Canton of Zurich ) was a Swiss journalist and writer .
Life
Lion studied history and philosophy in Strasbourg , Munich and Heidelberg , met André Gide during a stay in Paris and worked as a journalist during the First World War , including for the “Neuen Merkur”. With Thomas Mann since 1917 , and later friends with Alfred Döblin , after the end of the war he became a lecturer at Ullstein Verlag in Berlin , employee of the Neue Rundschau and wrote opera libretti for Eugen d'Albert and Paul Hindemith , among others . In 1933 he emigrated to Switzerland , was editor of the magazine Maß und Wert in 1937/1938 , lived in France during the Second World War and returned to Zurich in 1946 . In addition to works of fiction, Lion wrote literary, historical and philosophical treatises, including sources of life in German metaphysics (1960).
