Ferdinand von Kielmansegg
Ferdinand Hans Ludolf Graf von Kielmansegg (born February 14, 1777 in Ratzeburg , † August 19, 1856 in Hanover ) was a Hanoverian general of the cavalry and minister of the Kingdom of Hanover.
Life
Ferdinand Graf von Kielmansegg was the son of the Hanoverian Drost in Ratzeburg Friedrich Graf von Kielmansegg (1728–1800). The later head stable master Ludwig Graf von Kielmansegg and the general Friedrich Graf von Kielmansegg were his older brothers.
Kielmansegg joined the bodyguard of the Electorate of Hanover in 1791 and was promoted to second lieutenant the following year . During the First Coalition War , he was briefly captured by the French in the Battle of Famars . In 1813 he became a major in the newly established Queen Hussar Regiment in Lüneburg, which was integrated into the British Army at the Battle of Waterloo . After the Wars of Liberation in early May 1817, he became a colonel and commander of the Guard Cuirassier Regiment of the Hanoverian Army . He was promoted to major general in 1826 and was in command of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade from February to October 1831 . This was followed by a position as commander of the cavalry division. In this capacity he was promoted to lieutenant general on March 17, 1836 . With the formation of the 2nd Cavalry Division , his large formation was renamed the 1st Cavalry Division in January 1838 . From 1840 to 1847 Kielmansegg was Minister of War of the Kingdom of Hanover. After his departure, he received the character of General of the Cavalry on May 26, 1855 .
Marriage and offspring
He was initially married to Auguste Charlotte Countess von Schönberg , widowed von Lynar (1777–1863). Personal and political differences (the Count was a staunch opponent of Napoleon ) led to the separation in 1809 and finally to a divorce four years later . Their daughter Natalie (1803-1883) converted to the Catholic Church and in 1841 joined the order of the English Fräulein . The son Alfred (1804–1862) married Luise Zimmermann (1818–1887), the daughter of the mountain councilor Zimmermann from Eisleben.
His second marriage was in 1818 with Davide von Hedemann (1787-1878). This marriage had two sons and three daughters:
- Adolf (1819–1873) ⚭ October 8, 1856 Mathilde Charlotte Auguste Caroline von Bothmer (1832–1919)
- Helene (* 1821)
