Ferdos Forudastan (born September 29, 1960 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German journalist . From September 2012 to March 2017 she was the spokesperson for Federal President Joachim Gauck and from January 2018 to January 2020 she was head of the domestic policy department of the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

Life

Forudastan grew up as the daughter of a German and an Iranian in their hometown, in St. Gallen , in Isfahan and in Tehran and did her Abitur in Germany. After studying law and political science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , she worked as the capital correspondent for the taz in Bonn from 1989 and for the Frankfurter Rundschau in Berlin from 1991 . At that time, Forudastan mainly dealt with domestic and legal policy and with the Union parties .

In addition to her home paper , the Badische Zeitung , she worked from 1999 to mid-2012 as a freelance author and presenter for a number of other print and electronic media. She moderated the political WDR magazine Piazza in the Funkhaus Europa , topics of the day , politics and the program information and music on Deutschlandfunk . Forudastan wrote comments and features for the public radio and made several films for the ARD . She also co-wrote books on migration and integration and worked for the Academy for Journalism in Hamburg , the Technical University of Dortmund and the WDR as a lecturer in journalism training.

Forudastan was a frequent guest in the press club , a fellow in the “journalist in residence” program of the Max Planck Institute for Social Research in Cologne and the Berlin Science Center for Social Research , a long-time member of the jury of the Civis - Europe's media prize for integration and a mentor for young people Journalists from immigrant families.

For her journalistic work, she received the Theodor Wolff Prize of the Federal Association of German Newspaper Publishers , the Media Prize of the German Lawyers' Association (1995) and the Siebenpfeiffer Prize .

From September 2012 to March 2017, Forudastan was the head of the press and public relations department in the Office of the Federal President and spokeswoman for Federal President Joachim Gauck .

On January 1, 2018, Forudastan took over the management of the domestic affairs department from Heribert Prantl at the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Prantl is said to have suggested it personally. On February 1, 2020, she moved to the Civis Medienstiftung , where she took over the position of managing director from Michael Radix on April 1, 2020 .

Forudastan is married to Michael Vesper . They have three children together and live in Cologne .
