FernUni Switzerland is an accredited institute for university distance learning in Switzerland .

history

The foundation was established in 1992 as the Center for University Distance Learning Switzerland (ZUF), Brig. In the same year she opened her study center in Brig ( Canton Valais ), then in Pfäffikon ( Canton Schwyz ) in 1994 and finally in Sierre in 1995. In 1995 the institution was recognized by the Canton of Valais. In June 2004 the Swiss University Conference confirmed that the requirements for becoming a subsidized university institution were met. In November of the same year, the Department of the Interior recognized the three centers. In its press release of November 10, 2004, it says as follows: «On the basis of the standards defined by the OAQ (body for accreditation and quality assurance), the experts have come to the conclusion that the University Distance Learning Switzerland Foundation provides high-quality services in the field of distance learning and leadership training, and that these services represent a welcome addition to university education. The educational offer and the advice and support centers set up by the institution represent a remarkable added value for the Swiss university landscape. " FernUni Switzerland has been on the list of recognized or accredited Swiss universities since 2004. On June 26, 2020, the Swiss Accreditation Council decided in favor of the FernUni Switzerland and accredited it as the first institute for university distance learning .

The offer includes bachelor's and master's degrees in history, artificial intelligence, mathematics, law, psychology and economics as well as advanced training in biometrics and data protection, communication and management.

organization

The foundation has the following organs: The foundation council deals with strategic management, the scientific advisory board supports quality assurance in teaching, study and research and is the specialist body for all questions of academic teaching and research. The management is responsible for the operational management. Two other departments take care of teaching and research on the one hand, and finance, human resources, IT, marketing and communication on the other. Marc Bors is in charge of operational management as rector. The teaching staff consists of professors from Swiss and foreign universities.
