The Westgroßefehn wetland is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Großefehn in the Aurich district .
The nature reserve with the label WE 147 is 8 hectares in size. It is almost completely part of the FFH area “Fehntjer Tief und Umgebung” and the EU bird sanctuary “Fehntjer Tief”. In the east it borders on the nature reserve " Flumm-Niederung ", in the west on the nature reserve " Fehntjer Tief-Nord ".
The nature reserve, which lies immediately west of Westgroßefehn and borders in the north on the northern arm of the Fehntjer low , is a second-hand wetland biotope. It was created as a retreat for endangered animal and plant species and is also intended to serve as an observation and research object for ecological connections and developments.
The area has been a nature reserve since December 24, 1983. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Aurich.
