The Fladnitzbach (also: Fladnitz ) is a river in the Lower Austrian Mostviertel . The Fladnitztal cycle path leads partly along the river.

Course and catchment area

It has its origin north of Karlstetten , but only reappears east of Karlstetten with a recognizable stream bed. It then flows through the towns of Obermamau and Flinsdorf before the Weiternbach flows into the Fladnitz at the city limits of St. Pölten . After passing Großhain , Zagging and Rottersdorf , both the Noppenbach and the Anzenhofer Bach flow into Statzendorf . The Fladnitzbach then leaves the St. Pölten district and flows through the Krems district from Meidling . After Paudorf , where the Höbenbach joins, the Fladnitz reaches the Danube valley near Steinaweg . The last major tributary flows into Steinaweg with the Halterbach . After flowing through Furth near Göttweig and Palt , the Fladnitzbach flows into the Danube opposite Krems an der Donau .

The water system around the Fladnitz drains the part of the city of St. Pölten around Weitern and Ragelsdorf above the Viehofner Kogel , in the St. Pölten district the eastern part of the municipality of Karlstetten, the municipalities of Obritzberg-Rust and Statzendorf and a large part of the municipality of Wölbling . Furthermore, smaller parts of the communities Neidling , Herzogenburg , Inzersdorf-Getzersdorf and Nussdorf ob der Traisen are drained in the district. In the Melk district, the Fladnitz drains a small part of the Dunkelsteinerwald community , in the Krems-Land district a large part of the Paudorf and Bergern communities in the Dunkelsteinerwald and parts of the Furth bei Göttweig, Mautern an der Donau and Rossatz-Arnsdorf communities .

Tributaries

Höbenbach in Paudorf

Weiternbach

The Weiternbach rises near Weitern in the St. Pölten district of Viehofen . In its course it flows through Weitern and Ragelsdorf and flows between Flinsdorf and Großhain from the right into the Fladnitz, which bends north here. It drains the part of the city of St. Pölten above the Viehofner Kogel and parts of the Pittnerberg.

Noppenbach

The Noppenbach rises as Wiedenbach north of Weyersdorf and flows past Hofstetten and Pfaffing , where the Pfaffinger Bach flows into. After it has flowed through Schweinern , the Schweibach flows into it, which has its source in several springs at the Silberne Birn near Thallern . The source brooks of the Schweibach, which unite in Thallern, flow through the Dachsgraben, the Mittergraben and the Vordergraben. After flowing through Grünz , Eitzendorf and Noppendorf , the Noppenbach flows into the Fladnitz from the left shortly before the railway bridge in Statzendorf.

Anzenhofer Bach

The Anzenhofer Bach or Anzenhoferbach rises on the eastern slope of the Ammering in several source brooks and unites near Ambach to the Ambach . After flowing through Hausheim , this joins in Absdorf with the Anzenhofer Bach , which arises in Oberwölbling and flows into the Fladnitz shortly after the railway bridge in Statzendorf.

The Anzenhofer Bach was called "Werksbach" until the late 20th century, as it drained the coal pits of the Statzendorfer bright coal mine (main shaft in Anzenhof).

Höbenbach

The Höbenbach rises near Höbenbach and flows into the Fladnitz from the right after the Eggendorf passage in Paudorf .

Halterbach

The Halterbach rises on the western slope of the Ammering in several source streams that unite in Wolfenreith . The Hiesbergbach , which emerged from several source streams between Nesselstauden and Schenkenbrunn, flows into it near Schenkenbrunn . On the way to Oberbergern , the second Klingelbach flows first , then the Schenkenbrunner Bach and the First Klingelbach . South of Unterbergern , the Sendlbach flows into the Halterbach, finally a tributary from the Kohlgraben. The Halterbach finally flows from the left into the narrow loop of the Fladnitz, which stretches to the west, around the Umlaufberg Hals in Steinaweg .

Water quality

The state of Lower Austria rates the water quality of the Fladnitz in large parts as quality class II-III (moderately polluted to heavily polluted), in the section between Obermamau and the tributaries in Statzendorf as quality class III (heavily polluted). The Halterbach is classified as quality class II (moderately loaded) on its entire route.

Economic use

There are two run-of-river power plants on the Fladnitz water system, both on the Halterbach. The older power plant is located in Oberbergern and was approved for the first time in 1951. It has a height of fall of 5.5 m and an output of 2.94 kW. The second power plant is a few kilometers upstream and was first used in 1975 to generate electricity. With a fall height of 8.25 m, it has an output of 7.83 kW.
