history
The name “Furth” came about because the Fladnitz was easily passable here. The word “ ford ” means something like path or road. The place was first mentioned around 1138 in the Göttweiger founding document. Bishop Altmann already found the place. Palt was first mentioned in 1309. The name means something like wet room (where the Fladnitz flows into the Danube). Aigen did not emerge as a farming village, but was founded as a settlement by craftsmen and workers around 1300. Steinaweg is not yet mentioned in the oldest Göttweiger property registers (approx. 1302). Romans may have found this stretch of the route to be extremely rich, hence the name. Oberfucha was founded in 1251 and was largely owned by the Bavarian Osterhofen monastery. Later the place was exchanged. Kleinwien is the oldest district. By 1140 there was already a church, nunnery, mill and living quarters. The convent was probably moved to the Göttweiger Berg around 1200.
When Austria was annexed to Hitler's Germany, the municipalities of Furth and Palt were incorporated into the Gau capital Krems an der Donau .
Population development
The strong population growth from 1981 to 2011 can be traced back to a slightly positive birth balance and especially to a strongly positive migration balance.
