Flupyrsulfuron-methyl is a chemical compound from the group of sulfonylureas , which was introduced by DuPont as a herbicide around 2000 .

use

Flupyrsulfuron-methyl is used as a systemic and selective herbicide, which acts by inhibiting acetolactate synthase . The biosynthesis of the amino acids with branched side chains such as L - leucine , L - isoleucine and L - valine is prevented.

It works particularly well against field foxtail grass and common windstorm as well as good against chamomile , cornflower , cranesbills , rape and chickweed ; the field foxtail grass, however, has already developed resistance .

Flupyrsulfuron-methyl was a comparatively expensive herbicide in Germany.

Admission

The approval of flupyrsulfuron as an active ingredient in plant protection products has not been renewed by the European Commission after the European Food Safety Authority came to the conclusion in its assessment that unacceptable effects on groundwater and harmful effects on human health cannot currently be ruled out . According to the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1496 , the member states had to terminate existing authorizations for plant protection products containing flupyrsulfuron by December 13, 2017. Since appeals against the non-renewal of the approval of flupyrsulfuron have been lodged with the European Court of Justice , the BVL did not revoke the approvals, but initially ordered the suspension. In Switzerland, plant protection products with this active ingredient are currently (June 2018) still authorized.
