The Fornsbach is a slightly over 8 km long stream in the Murrhardt Forest in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows west of the Murrhardt village of Fornsbach in the Rems-Murr district from the right and east into the upper Murr .

geography

course

The source of the Fornsbach is on the edge of the hamlet of Wolfenbrück in the municipality of Oberrot in the district of Schwäbisch Hall at around 487  m above sea level. NHN . Less than a hundred meters inside the Knicks the thoroughfare K 2609 almost at the northern edge of the hamlet of Bach created at the beginning of its forest sword and then flows southeast into this. After a good one and a half kilometers, the Schelmenbach flows in from the right, which, like it, arises on the edge of the flat plateau that extends to the right of the brook valley from Wolfenbrück to Murrhardt - Hinterbüchelberg and further south. After this tributary, further, first from the left, the Bubenreinbach flow from the eastern edge of the Oberrot hamlet of Glashofen , which is located on the shoulder of the plateau on the left, behind which the more important Fichtenberger Rot flows almost parallel here; then a stream from the right, which emerges as the outflow of a pond in the north of Hinterbüchelberg, and the duck stream, which drains a pond on the eastern edge of the hamlet itself. These are all streams through wooded blades almost from the start. A little after the mouth of the Entenbach, after about 3 km from the source, the Fornsbach merges into the strongly widening valley into the corridor, which from here covers the valley floor and the lower slope.

Soon it moves between some loosely grouped emigrant farms that already belong to the small town of Murrhardt , immediately afterwards between the hamlets of Neuhaus on the right and Harnersberg on the left at the foot of the slope; above the last rises, only slightly overhanging the plateau, the 483.4  m above sea level. Mountain of the same name reaching NHN . After continuing the consistent south-east course in a wide, meadow-rich valley for the first 5.7 km, the middle course ends at the mouth of the Mahdbach from the left, the longest tributary to date.

This runs in a similarly large meadow valley from the foot of the Schanz in the east-northeast, a pass over the ridge to the Rottal, over which the state road 1066 enters the Murr valley system. Just like the Murrtalbahn , which tunnels under the Schanz in the Schanztunnel , it follows the Mahdbach up to its mouth and then the Fornsbach, which kinks in the direction of its inflow to the west-southwest. A few hundred meters further, the water enters the settlement area of the village of Fornsbach , where the Seebach flows from the left , which previously at the foot of the wooded slope of the Mahdbach - lower Fornsbach valley axis flowed through the Fornsbach forest lake, which was created as a drift pond and is now used for recreation , and how previously the Mahdbach originated on the edge of the plateau to the left of the valley. After another, smaller inlet from the left, which arises on the slope of the Hornberg mountain spur ( 490.4  m above sea level ) that accompanies the Fornsbach on the left and which takes up the outlet of the much smaller Black Lake , the stream leaves the village. Behind it it takes its largest inflow from the right, the 3.9 km long Beilsbach , which runs parallel to the middle course of the Fornsbach itself, also to the southeast.

The Fornsbach finally empties at about 307  m above sea level. NHN at the Murrhardter Eisenschmiedmühle from the right and east after 8.3 km run into the upper Murr , which has almost completed its big bend here and after this tributary now also moves on towards the tributary to the west towards Murrhardt, still accompanied by a railway line and state road.

Catchment area

The Fornsbach drains a catchment area of 17.4 km² and thus noticeably less than the receiving upper Murr , the length of which it is somewhat longer. At around 6.8 km, its catchment area is the largest between the northern edge of Wolfenbrück and the road between the Fichtenberg hamlets of Vorderlangert and Hornberg ; across it, at its widest point in the southeast, it measures about half as much in width. From a natural perspective, it is located with the northern and northwestern part and up to the forest exit of the Fornsbach in the lower area of the Hinterer Mainhardter Wald , then in the lower area of the Murrtal of the Swabian-Franconian forest mountains .

The watershed runs from the estuary northwest over the wooded Lutzen plain to Murrhardt- Karnsberg ; on the other side the Fehlbach flows south to the downward Murr near the Murrhardter Auensiedlung. From there it roughly follows the road to Oberrot- Wolfenbrück (K 1806, from the district boundary K 2609); to the west of it the Siegelbach moves south to the Murr, which it reaches via the Trauzenbach in Murrhardt.

At the northern edge of Wolfenbrück, the catchment area boundary then bends to the east and runs so to the east of Oberrot-Glashofen; Outside of the river, the Maßlensbach tributary of the Fichtenberger Rot competes for a short stretch , and then its deeper tributary Fronbach in Oberrot. Then the watershed bends to the southeast and then runs on the plateau in front of the valley of the Rot, from which it runs one after the other at not very small tributaries of the Wiesenbach and the Bach from the Heiligenklinge , towards the small pass of the Schanz and then across it to to Fichtenberg -Vordertlangert. From there, the border of the catchment area moves west- south- west to the spur of the Hornberg south of Fornsbach; the other side of the river is drained by Dappach and Glattenzainbach one after the other to the lower Rot.

From around the beginning of the mountain spur itself at Fichtenberg-Hornberg, the Otterbach, which flows into the Murr a little above the Fornsbach itself, competes beyond this .

The mouth is about 307  m above sea level. NHN . The highest point in the catchment area is 510.2  m above sea level. NHN the summit of a small field hill northeast of Wolfenbrück on its northern edge. In several other places the watershed lies over 470  m above sea level. NHN , which are also exceeded in the interior of the catchment area because the plateaus are very similar in altitude. They are predominantly taken up by cleared areas and the valley floor of the middle and lower Fornsbach and the Mahdbach are also in open fields. In both of these types of land, grassland dominates arable farming. Apart from some parts of the plateau, forest covers the upper valley of the Fornsbach and, apart from the Mahdbach, most of the side cliffs and the high slopes in the middle and lower valleys of the Fornsbach.

  • On the central plateau between the middle Fornsbach and Beilsbach valleys , the hamlet of Hinterbüchelberg and the Braunbühl farm , both in Murrhardt

geology

The course and catchment area of the Fornsbach lies entirely in the Mittelkeuper of the north-eastern Murrhardt Forest . The Fornsbach rises near Wolfenbrück on the border between Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ) and Upper Bunter Marls ( Mainhardt Formation ) and then deepens through the Upper Bunter Marls, the Kieselsandstein ( Hassberge Formation ), the Lower Bunter Mergeln ( Steigerwald Formation) ) and hardly any reed sandstone ( Stuttgart formation ) up to the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld formation ), which it reaches after less than 1.5 km and before the inflow of the Schelmensbach . In this it then runs the much larger part of its flow stretch to its mouth west of Fornsbach.

In addition to the upper and middle reaches running to the south-east, Quaternary rush masses are often found on the left slope, similar to the Beilsbach flowing into the lower reaches .

In the catchment area, Stubensandstein is only located in very narrow marginal strips in the north-west near Wolfenbrück, in the south-east over Waldsee and Schwarzes See on the Hornberg and on the south-west side between the Lutzenberg and the hamlet of Karnsberg. The extensive plateaus between the southwestern upper and middle valleys of the Fornsbach and that of the Fichtenberger Rot , which is parallel on the other side of the eastern watershed , between this longer valley section and the also parallel lower tributary of the Beilsbach and a narrower strip of plateau west of the Beilsbach cover together with those in Gipskeuper lying, very wide valleys of Fornsbach, Mahdbach and Beilsbach make up most of the catchment area. Almost nowhere at the edge of these two main layers of the catchment area does the reed sandstone form a noticeable step between the two dominant marl layers on the slope in between.

On the left along the upper slope of the upper Beilsbach a fault line runs southeast, roughly parallel to it another from the direction of Karnsberg over Schwarzenmühlbachtal towards the Fornsbach estuary, both times the deep floe lies in the southwest.

River history

The conspicuous bend of the Fornsbach at the tributary of the Mahdbach and the direction of flow of the Beilsbach at an obtuse angle to that of the lower Fornsbach are explained by the layout of the valleys at a time when the Urmurr came in the opposite direction from the west through the valleys of today's lower Fornsbach and of the Mahdbach flowed eastwards to the Rot near Fichtenberg.
