Earlier relationships is a German silent film - comedy from 1927 by Arthur Bergen . The main roles are played by Ossi Oswalda , Fritz Kampers and Claire Rommer . The original of the same name, enriched here with some modernisms of the modern age (1920s) , was written by Johann Nestroy .

action

Since his marriage to Josefine, who comes from a family of professors, Mr. Scheitermann has tried to hide his simple background from her. The dizziness threatens to be exposed when her former servant is dismissed: House servant Johann, who learns modern dances of the 1920s such as Charleston and Shimmy during his social upbringing , has to leave because he had stolen cigars and Josefine's maid because Josefine caught her husband doing it, how he caressed her cheeks. Pepi, who was once a cook for Josefine's father and who had seen their numerous love affairs there, applies as the new maid. Josefine hires Pepi and soon complains to her that her husband is rich but rather stupid.

Things get worse when, of all people, the run-down Anton Muffl, who Scheitermann was once a house servant himself, applies for the exact same position. In addition, he had an affair with her during Pepi's theater time. With his knowledge of his low origin, Muffl immediately puts Scheitermann under pressure and begins to blackmail him. Pepi, the chambermaid, who dreams of a great career in theater and is already rehearsing the “Maid of Orléans”, believes, through a misunderstood conversation between the two men, that she can identify the accomplice of the failure man in a robbery. Moufflon in turn believes that Pepi is now Scheitermann's wife. Finally, however, the errors clear up.

criticism

In Vienna's Neue Freie Presse , the issue of February 25, 1928 said: “Nestroy's magnificent, gripping comedy situation ... can be perfectly reproduced in the film. Not so the ignition of his joke words. But there is still enough of the number of funny scenes ... (...) One comic scene after the other, just like with Nestroy, and even Nestroy's jokes come into their own in subtitles and letters. The director created pictures not only for the desire to laugh, but also for the curiosity, especially artistic and distinctive interiors. New tricks also liven up the plot. (…) In the main…… the crude and even palpable comedy of Nestroy has remained undamaged. "
