France Nuyen (born July 31, 1939 in Marseille , Bouches-du-Rhône , France ; actually France Nguyen Vannga ) is a French film and theater actress and psychotherapist .

Life

The daughter of a French woman and a Vietnamese was raised by her cousin in Marseille. To this day she assumes that her parents, who had found their way of life as gypsies , were murdered by the National Socialists .

As a child, she was sexually abused - according to unconfirmed reports - by a US Army soldier after the Allies liberated France . She therefore stood up for her entire life for children and women who were also abused and for women who were innocent in prisons. In 1986 she received her diploma as a psychologist and secured a second mainstay as a family therapist .

After Anna May Wong, Nuyen was the second Asian woman to successfully gain a foothold in the USA, first on Broadway and later in Hollywood . In the play The World of Suzie Wong , performed on Broadway between 1958 and 1960 , she met William Shatner , who later helped her to her most famous television role - that of the unruly Elaan - in the series Starship Enterprise .

After a brief liaison with Marlon Brando in the early 1960s, she has been married twice to date; the divorce occurred both times. With her first husband, the psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Gaspar Morell, with whom she was married between 1963 and 1967, she has a daughter, Fleur. Her second husband was the film actor and director Robert Culp , with whom she was married from 1967 to 1970. This marriage remained childless. Today Nuyen lives in Los Angeles and works increasingly as a therapist .
