Franz Peyerl (born June 26, 1897 in Kleinmünchen , Austria-Hungary , † September 13, 1967 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian politician and the first regional party leader of the Salzburg SPÖ after the Second World War .

Life

Peyerl's family moved to Salzburg shortly after his birth. From 1911 to 1915 Franz Peyerl did an apprenticeship as a shoe uppers manufacturer there. At the age of 15 he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth and in 1924 became their state secretary. Between 1932 and 1934 he sat for the SDAPDÖ in the Salzburg municipal council. After the National Socialists came to power in 1938 , Peyerl, who had meanwhile trained as an accountant, was arrested repeatedly.

After the end of the war , he was appointed to the provisional Salzburg provincial government as party leader of the SPÖ . He was responsible for the welfare department, health care and labor law. In November 1945 Franz Peyerl was elected to the National Council, but renounced the mandate in order to devote himself entirely to Salzburg state politics. In April 1946 he became governor -Stellvertreter and held this position until 1966 held.

Franz Peyerl was a member of the board of trustees at Haus der Natur and from 1947 to 1966 he was also chairman of the Salzburg state sports organization.

His son Erich Peyerl was also active for the SPÖ.

Honors

Franz Peyerl was made an honorary citizen of the city of Salzburg on June 26, 1962 . He was also an honorary citizen of the communities Abtenau , Grödig and Wals-Siezenheim . Franz Peyerl received the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold with the star for services to the Republic of Austria .

Franz Peyerl is buried in a grave of honor in the Salzburg municipal cemetery. In the city ​​of Salzburg , in Wals-Siezenheim, Grödig and Neumarkt am Wallersee streets are named after him.
