Franz Xaver Bernhard , also Franz Xaver Bernhardt (* August 8, 1726 in Eggenthal ; † February 21, 1780 ibid) was a German church painter of the Baroque .

Life

Bernhard came from a family of painters from Murnau . His father Joseph Bernhard settled in the monastery area of Irsee Abbey in the early 18th century and painted frescoes in Swabian churches, e.g. B. in Langenneufnach and St. Vitus in Derndorf . Franz Xaver Bernhard worked mainly in the area of ​​the imperial monastery Irsee and its surroundings as a fresco, panel and barrel painter. In addition to many frescoes, portraits of the Irsee abbots Aemilian Mock in the Pforzen rectory and of Bernhard Beck under the western gallery of the Irsee monastery church are attributed to Bernhard .
