Karl Franz Georg Steinfeld , von Steinfeld since 1871 , (born August 20, 1828 in Erfurt , † December 1, 1875 in Posen ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Karl Friedrich Ludwig Steinfeld (1790-1832) and his wife Christiane Dorothea Rebekka, née Schilling (1797-1866). His father was a captain in the 3rd Artillery Brigade .

Military career

Steinfeld first visited the cadet schools in Bensberg and Berlin . On May 27, 1845 he was employed as a second lieutenant in the 31st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . From February 1852 Steinfeld served as adjutant of the III for four years . Battalion in the 31st Landwehr Regiment commanded to Sangerhausen . From October 1, 1856 to July 31, 1857 he served as a company commander in the 1st Battalion of the 31st Landwehr Regiment in Erfurt and has since been promoted to Prime Lieutenant. This was followed by a job as adjutant of the 32nd Infantry Brigade in Trier . In this capacity, Steinfeld was appointed captain on May 31, 1859 and an adjutant of the 29th Infantry Brigade in Cologne on January 3, 1860 . On May 8, 1860, Steinfeld returned to service and became company commander in his main regiment. Transferred to the Hohenzollern Fusilier Regiment No. 40 , he was commanded on January 9, 1864 as an adjutant to the General Command of VI. Army Corps . Shortly afterwards he was transferred to the 2nd Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 28 and was promoted to major on April 18, 1865 .

Steinfeld took part in the battle near Gradlitz and the battle of Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . For his achievements he received the Red Eagle Order IV. Class with Swords and was appointed commander of the 1st Battalion in the 5th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 53 in Wesel on September 15, 1866 . From April 11, 1867 Steinfurt served as commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 in Straussberg. In this position, promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1868 , Steinfurt was initially commander of the 1st Landwehr Regiment in the 4th Landwehr Brigade for the duration of the mobile relationship from July 18, 1870. He took part in the siege of Metz and was commissioned in the further course of the war against France on December 18, 1870 with the command of the 7th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 69 . After the preliminary peace at Versailles , Steinfeld was appointed regimental commander on March 29, 1871.
