Škofljica (German: Frauenberg near Laibach ) is a municipality in the Dolenjska region in Slovenia .

Location and inhabitants

8,282 people live in the total community, which consists of 19 villages and hamlets. The main town Škofljica has 1,988 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of 305 m. The municipality is located 10 km southeast of the capital Ljubljana (German: Laibach) on the southeastern edge of the Ljubljansko barje , the Ljubljana moor.

history

The area was inhabited since prehistoric times, as excavations in Molnik show. The remains of pile dwelling settlements have also been found in the Ljubljana bog. Their age is estimated to be 6,000 years.
