Ig (also Ig pri Ljubljani; German: Sonnegg in der Krain ) is a municipality in the Gorenjska region in Slovenia .
Location and inhabitants
The total community, which was formed from 21 villages in 1995, has 6202 people. The main town Ig alone has 2054 inhabitants. The municipality is located 10 km south of the capital Ljubljana on the edge of the Ljubljana Moors and the Crimean Mountains (1107 m).
There are prehistoric pile dwellings in the community , which have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps since 2011 .
