history
Because of its ore deposits , Šmartno pri Litiji was inhabited in earlier times. Most of the residents worked in the mining industry up to the present day.
The universal scholar Johann Weichard von Valvasor (1641–1693) had his domicile and studio at Bogenšperk Castle (Wagensberg Castle) .
