history
The parish church of St. Peter was first mentioned in a document in 1147 (Sv. Peter v gozdu / St. Peter im Walde). At the end of the 13th century, the Order of Malta was established (Commenda St. Peter). The village was u. a. known because of Corpus Christi processions with horses (see Johann Weichard von Valvasor : Die Ehre des Hertzogthums Crain ). The Maltese have promoted horse breeding in Komenda and the surrounding area. This tradition has been preserved to this day (hippodrome, horse racing, equestrian club).
The current baroque church was built in 1727. The church square was planned and built by the architect Jožef Plečnik before the Second World War .
economy
Today the municipality is dominated by agriculture .
Most of the working population commute to work in Kamnik , Kranj , Domžale and Ljubljana every day . A new Žeje economic zone was recently opened near the Ljubljana-Kranj motorway on the border with the Vodice municipality .
