Fred Ritzhaupt (born December 24, 1944 in Seefeld in Tirol ) is a German theologian , a Jesuit converted to Protestantism , pastor of a Free Evangelical Congregation and author .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1965, he attended the seminary in Freising from 1965 to 1967 and then joined the Jesuit order , where he spent his novitiate in Neuhausen auf den Fildern . He had had a special spiritual experience through Ignatian retreats and was converted to the faith . From 1969 to 1971 he studied philosophy in Pullach , from which he graduated with a Lic. Phil. And then until 1975 Catholic theology at the University of Innsbruck . In 1974 he was awarded in Mannheim the priesthood and worked from 1975 to 1,977 as deanery youth pastor in Hof (Saale) . This was followed by a postgraduate degree in theology and a tertiary degree in Switzerland , which he completed with a Magister Theologiae . From 1979 he was employed as a school chaplain in Ravensburg . Here he built up a large youth work and prayer groups in the spirit of charismatic awakening and in 1981 transformed the Catholic Student Youth into a charismatic movement of American style. He accompanied the Catholic lay community "Gemeinschaft Immanuel Ravensburg eV" in its creation, which also included a publishing house, bookstore, recording studio and an artist agency, brought the "C-Magazin" into being and founded the youth band "Effata". From 1981 to 1992 he was a school chaplain in the St. Konrad Education Center, in the girls' secondary school "Klösterle" and in the parish of Liebfrauen and conducted adult faith seminars in communities as well as for entrepreneurs.

After leaving the order, Ritzhaupt worked from 1992 to 1997 at the Christian Projektion J publishing house as an editor and translator. He then worked as a pastoral assistant in the evangelical Andreas church in Niederhöchstadt near Frankfurt. During this time he converted to Protestantism . In 2000 he accepted the pastor's position in the free church "Christian Community Center Albershausen ", which he held until 2011.

From June 2015 he was active as a retired pastor in the Westphalian Free Evangelical Congregation Schalksmühle . In 2018 he moved to Göppingen to found a new Free Evangelical Church there. From March to July 2020 he was part-time pastor of the Free Evangelical Congregation Wiesloch - Walldorf .

Ritzhaupt has been teaching the history of philosophy at the European Theological Seminary in Freudenstadt since 2007 . He is a board member of Heaven Underground eV Streetwork in Göppingen, member of the social work group of the city of Göppingen, member of the Evangelical Alliance in Göppingen and member of the editorial team of the magazine “Faszination Bibel” of the SCM Bundes-Verlag . He lectures at parish seminars for both the Catholic Church, the Protestant Church and free church communities.

He has published several books including Welcome Home , a New Testament translation that he worked on over nine years. In the article "How literally one has to take the Bible", Ritzhaupt explains, quoting the US Franciscan Father Richard Rohr, that the Bible itself is not interested in being taken literally. The far more sensible thing is to take the Bible seriously. He also authored The Story, a narrative from the creation of the world to Revelation that provides an overview of the entire Bible . The idea comes from the USA by co-author Randy Frazee and is called "The Story, NIV", who probably selected and compiled the texts from the American New International Version (NIV). In addition, Ritzhaupt wrote numerous articles in various magazines and journals.

Private

Fred Ritzhaupt married his wife Erika in 1992. The couple have three biological sons and live in Göppingen. In 1999 a daughter joined the family as a foster child.
