Origin of name
In 1326 the name Hausen was first used to refer to this place. The compound name appears for the first time in Meister Eberhard von Freynhaws. But until 1561 the name Hausen, Freinhawsen or Freyenhausen alternated.
Hausen is the plural of Old High German hūs "house" (group of (residential) buildings). The name Hausen was probably specified in the 14th century by the personal name Frei to distinguish it from the same place names . An interpretation “to the vacant houses” can be ruled out.
history
Freihausen was first mentioned in the 12th century. At that time, six farms with real estate belonged to the von Thannbrunn family. Later, the nobles von Heideck received rights over the property in Freihausen. The monastery of the temple lords is also said to have had rights in Freihausen. As can be seen from a description from 1326, Freihausen then belonged to the Holnstein office. During this time, a certain “Jeuhel von Hausen” had his headquarters in Freihausen, which he then bequeathed to the Neumarkt Holy Spirit Monastery . At that time, the Plankstetten Monastery , the Court Church in Neumarkt, the foundation “Das Reiche Almosen” zu Neumarkt and Friedrich Ittelhofer also had rights and grounds to Freihausen . The Ittelhofer later sold a large part of their property to the Elector Friedrich . In 1842 a larger chapel was built by the Freihausen community, for which some masses were also approved. Freihausen has always belonged to the parish of Waldkirchen . From the middle of the 19th century, the population of the village increased. Freihausen was electrified in 1926 and the first water pipeline construction followed two years later.
