Friedrich (Moselgau)

Friedrich (* 965 ; † October 6, 1019 ) from the Wigeriche family was Count in the Moselgau and Vogt of Stablo and Malmedy . He was the son of Count Siegfried , who was Vogt of Sankt Maximin in Trier and Echternach , and Hedwig.

Through his sister Kunigunde he was the brother-in-law of Emperor Heinrich II , against whom he rose up in 1008, which is why he was imprisoned from 1011 to 1012. After the reconciliation with Heinrich, he stood on his side again.

Friedrich married Irmtrud von der Wetterau (* 972, † after 1015), a daughter of Count Heribert von der Wetterau and in Kinziggau and the heiress von Gleiberg from the Konradin family , with whom he had at least ten children:

Since Friedrich's grandson Konrad I assumed the title of Count of Luxembourg in 1083 , he is not only regarded as the progenitor of the Luxembourg Count House, but is often referred to as the Count of Luxembourg himself (→ History of Luxembourg ).
