Friedrich Alexander von Roëll

Friedrich Alexander von Roëll (* 1676 in Dolberg ; † December 13, 1745 near Meißen ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of the 7th Dragoon Regiment .

Life

origin

The family presumably comes from Alsace and came from there to the County of Mark . His parents were the heir to Dolberg Johann Jakob von Roëll († February 21, 1682) and his wife Marie, born von dem Brink from the Nierhoven family. Major General Christoph Moritz von Roëll (1713–1797) was his son after Priesdorff , but his nephew after Steinen . The Dutch theologian Hermann Alexander Roëll (1653-1718), however, is said to have been his uncle.

Military career

In 1695 Roëll entered the Prussian service as a simple rider, joined the “von Ansbach” dragoon regiment and fought against the Turks in Hungary . In 1700 he became a corporal . During the War of the Spanish Succession , Roëll fought in the battles of Oudenaarde and Malplaquet . In 1703 he became sergeant in the "Sonsfeld" dragoon regiment , on January 24, 1704, a cornet and on December 19, 1707, a lieutenant. But on June 6, 1714 he became a captain in the "Lottum" cuirassier regiment . Roëll rose further, became major on November 24, 1721 and lieutenant colonel on May 25, 1725 . On June 19, 1736 he was given command of the regiment. As a result, he was promoted to colonel on January 4, 1738 , major general on April 23, 1743 and lieutenant general on July 15, 1745.

During the First Silesian War Roëll fought in the Battle of Chotusitz . Major General Ernst Ferdinand von Werdeck fell there , and in May 1742 he was given his position as head of the regiment. During the Second Silesian War , Roëll fell in the fighting for Meißen on December 13, 1745. The column stalled in a ravine, enemy Uhlans attacked the column, and the general fell.

Roëll was married twice. His first wife was Sophie Margarethe von Holwede . His second wife was Eleonore Sophie von Welchhausen from the Saltze family. The following children emerged from the marriages:

After the lieutenant general's death, the widow received a pension of 200 thalers from King Friedrich II .
