Friedrich Braeucker (born  July 13, 1919 in Munich ; †  November 5, 2010 ) was a German naval officer and submarine commander in World War II .

Life

Before the war

On April 3, 1937, he joined the Navy as an officer candidate and completed basic and on-board training as well as various courses in the period up to October 1939. On September 21, 1937 he was promoted to sea ​​cadet , on May 1, 1938 to ensign in the sea , on July 1, 1939 to senior ensign in the sea and finally on August 1, 1939 to lieutenant in the sea .

During the war

From November 1939 to March 1940 he served in the 9th ship master department in Stralsund and the torpedo school in Flensburg-Mürwik . He received the Iron Cross II. Class (EK II) and served from 1940 to 1943 in the 1st Torpedo Boat Flotilla and the 2nd Torpedo Boat Flotilla . Friedrich Braeucker was captured by the Royal Canadian Navy , initially remained in Canadian captivity before he was transferred to the United Kingdom . He was released in December 1948 and returned to Germany . He later joined the newly established Navy of the German Armed Forces and went out of service with the rank of sea ​​captain . He died at the age of 91.
