Military career

Stutterheim came to Berlin on September 7, 1772 as a cadet . After three years, he was transferred to the regiment of the Guard on March 8, 1775 as a private corporal . There he became Portepeefähnrich on October 26, 1776 , took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 and advanced to Prime Lieutenant by the end of March 1792 . During the First Coalition War he took part in the siege of Mainz and fought in the battles of Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern as well as in the battles near Kettrich and Trippstadt.

On August 2, 1796 he was staff captain and on June 6, 1799 captain and company commander . On January 5, 1805, Stutterheim became Major of the Guard with a patent from January 6, 1805. As such, he took part in the Fourth Coalition War, fought in the Battle of Auerstedt and was made inactive after the surrender at Prenzlau. But they wanted to keep him in the army and so in 1807 he received half his salary and was entrusted with the administration of the garrison school in Potsdam.

On March 2, 1813 he was commander of the III. Reserve battalion of the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment and on July 10, 1813, Lieutenant Colonel . During the Wars of Liberation he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for the Battle of Hagelberg , fought at Belzig , Coswig and Antwerp (proposed for Iron Cross 1st class), and also in the battles at Bautzen , Großbeeren , Dennewitz and the sieges of Wittenberg and Antwerp . On January 6, 1814, he was commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Elb Landwehr Regiment and on March 31, 1815, commander of the Rhenish replacement battalion in Cologne. On March 31, 1815 he was promoted to colonel with a patent dated June 11, 1815.

On March 18, 1816, he was transferred to the 16th Landwehr Regiment as commander. He fell with the horse, unhappily breaking his arm, which hindered him in the future. On May 11, 1815, he received 200 thalers from the king "for spa treatments to help him recover". On May 5, 1817, he had already become a commander in the 1st Arnsberger Landwehr Regiment. Both the Landwehr inspector Karl von Briesen and the commanding general Heinrich Wilhelm von Horn recommended Stutterheim for promotion, but it should not be. So he stayed with the Landwehr Regiment until he left as major general and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class. In addition, he received an annual pension of 900 thalers. On February 28, 1826, he also received the service cross . Stutterheim initially stayed in his old Soest garrison and then moved to Potsdam , where he died on April 24, 1832.
