Friedrich Heinrich Julius Bötticher (born January 24, 1826 in Magdeburg , † January 19, 1895 in Berlin ) was Lord Mayor of Magdeburg and Privy Councilor .

Life

Friedrich Boetticher studied after the Domgymnasium Magdeburg his high school had taken, Law . After completing his studies, he initially worked as an auscultant and trainee lawyer at the Magdeburg City and District Court.

In 1853 he was elected to the city council. After completing his legal training, Bötticher switched entirely to the city administration and in 1864 took over the management of the department for poor and welfare work. He was a board member of associations for poor relief and church institutions in this sector.

In 1871, Bötticher was elected 2nd mayor. In February 1882 he succeeded Gustav Hasselbach as mayor, although his election was not without controversy. Since September 1883 Bötticher was allowed to use the title of Lord Mayor .

During his tenure, a large part of Magdeburg's transformation into an industrial city took place. The suburbs of Neue Neustadt and Buckau were incorporated, the rayon regulations for the Magdeburg area were lifted and the inner fortification belt removed.

The development into a big city required the construction of a large number of infrastructure facilities. The Magdeburg slaughterhouse , new streets, sewers and schools were built. The city hospital was expanded. The Fürstenufer , the Zollbrücke and the Lange Brücke were built. Under Bötticher, sewage fields were purchased from Körbelitz to solve the urban wastewater problem . Within the city administration, Bötticher founded the statistical office . The library and archive areas became independent within the administration.

Bötticher was also Vice President of the Prussian Manor House and the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Saxony . In addition, since 1854 he was a member of the Masonic Lodge "Ferdinand zur Glückseligkeit".

Bötticher remained Lord Mayor until his death. He was buried in the Magdeburg Südfriedhof. The city of Magdeburg named Bötticherstrasse after him.

His son was the Prussian district administrator and later district president Richard Bötticher , who was raised to the Prussian nobility due to his services.
