Friedrich Leopold Palm (born April 6, 1786 in Neustadt-Eberswalde , † December 9, 1873 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 16th Landwehr Brigade.

Life

His parents were the Justice Commissioner Friedrich Palm and his wife, a nee Kalthöffer.

Military career

Palm attended a grammar school in Berlin and from 1813 the University of Halle . In 1811 he was a co-founder of the German Confederation in Berlin . Palm joined the Lützow Freikorps on February 28, 1813 as a volunteer hunter . On August 17, 1813 he became second lieutenant and fought during the wars of liberation in the blockades of Glückstadt and Jülich and the sieges of Maubeuge , Philippeville and Givet. He also took part in the battles on the Göhrde , Mölln , Zarrenthin and Belle Alliance . For Mölln, Palm received the Iron Cross II. Class and, as Prime Lieutenant , he was wounded in the Battle of Ligny .

From March 31, 1815 to February 21, 1816 Palm was active in the 25th Infantry Regiment and was then transferred to the 5th Infantry Regiment . Here he became captain and company commander on March 5, 1817 . After his promotion to major , on November 14, 1831, he was employed as director of the division school of the 2nd division in Danzig . On September 8, 1840, Palm was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. On September 12, 1841 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on July 29, 1842 he was commissioned to lead the 6th Infantry Regiment . Palm was appointed regimental commander on January 10, 1843 and promoted to colonel on March 30, 1844 in that capacity . At the same time he acted from November 9, 1844 as director of the division school of the 9th Division . On June 6, 1848, he was transferred to the 16th Landwehr Brigade as commander. He was born on April 4, 1850 Major General and received on 10 May 1851 his parting with inn . On January 27, 1864 he was appointed Honorary Senior of the Iron Cross, 2nd class. Palm died on December 9, 1873 in Berlin and was buried on December 13, 1873 as the old garrison cemetery in Linienstrasse .
