Hermann Friedrich Möller (born October 13, 1888 in Ihlbrock ; † June 12, 1951 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German building contractor and politician ( DDP and FDP ).

Career

Möller's father was master stone setter Hermann Heinrich Möller (1856–1916). In the early years of the city of Wilhelmshaven, he went into business for himself and founded a stone setting company in 1873, which benefited enormously from the development of the city, in which road construction was currently experiencing a dynamic rise. Möller then also attended elementary school in Wilhelmshaven and then went on to do an apprenticeship in his father's company. From 1905 he studied civil engineering at the State Building School Nienburg / Weser , specializing in civil engineering . After completing his exams, he rejoined his father's company and was able to significantly expand the field of activity in the areas of civil engineering, civil engineering and hydraulic engineering . In 1916, after the death of his father, he took over the management of the company, developed a large, modern company from the locally bound craft business and opened branches in Bremen , Berlin , Dortmund , Vienna , Lübeck and Hamburg . On the other hand, Möller was careful to maintain the character of his company as a family business, despite the 5000 employees at times.

In the Jade Cities, Möller was given almost all major construction contracts, including the construction of the Rüstringen town hall for Fritz Höger . He also built beach houses, the station building of the Wilhelmshaven train station , the engineering academy , the employment office and the Reinhard Nieter hospital , as well as the construction of the Lower Saxony bridge , the Maadesiel and several lake dykes . The company was involved in the Moselle canalization nationwide from 1928 to 1930 and built the Eddersheim am Main barrage . In addition, Möller founded “Norddeutsche Eisenbau GmbH” in Sande in 1931 , which he expanded into a large company for the construction of steel bridges and steel water tanks. After the Second World War , the company was also in demand for clearing cities and building houses in Hamburg and other cities. Other projects were the reconstruction of the destroyed Weserbahnhof in Bremen as well as the repair of the Weser weir and the corresponding Weser lock.

In addition to his professional commitment, Möller was early on politically and founded the Wilhelmshaven-Rüstringer local group of the German Democratic Party after the First World War . In the Weimar Republic he was a member of the DDP from 1923 to 1931 in the Oldenburg state parliament . After the end of the Second World War he joined the FDP and was appointed to the Appointed Landtag of Oldenburg in January 1946 . There he acted as spokesman for his group.

Möller's leading position in the Wilhelmshaven economy was also reflected in his temporary deputy chairmanship of the Wilhelmshaven Chamber of Commerce and Industry . Möller was also active as a Freemason and was a member of the Wilhelmshaven Johannisloge Wilhelm zum Silber Anker from 1919 until it was forcibly dissolved .

family

Möller married Johanne Catharine, born in Sande, on November 3rd, 1917. Lohse (1888–1981), the daughter of a farmer. The couple had three sons, of whom Enno and Gerd later joined the management of their father's company, which, however, had to file for bankruptcy shortly after its centenary in 1976 .
