Johann Friedrich Wilhelm von Chamier (born March 8, 1789 in Zemmen , † October 18, 1853 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm was a member of the Zemmener tribe of the rear-Pomeranian - Pomeranian noble family von Chamier, from which numerous members joined the Prussian army . His parents were the landowner of Zemmen D Johann Mathias von Chamier (1766–1793) and Catharina Wilhelmina von Chamier (* 1769) from the Zemmen E.

career

Chamier began his career in 1794, like 17 other members of his sex before and after him, at the Stolper Kadettenanstalt and was transferred to the Cadet Corps in Berlin in 1805 . Towards the end of 1806 he became an ensign in the 3rd Neumärkischen Reserve Battalion. He took part in the Fourth Coalition War and took part in the defense of Danzig . At the beginning of 1808 he was transferred to the Leib-Infantry Regiment (No. 8) , but a few days later he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the 2nd Brandenburg Infantry Regiment (No. 12) , before joining the 1st East Prussian Infantry Regiment (No. 12) towards the end of the year . 1) to arrive. During the Russian campaign in 1812 he took part in the battles at Schlockhof, Mesothen , for which he was commended, and Dalbinkrug. In the Wars of Liberation he received the Iron Cross II. There followed for him fights at the crossing at Wartenburg , as well as in the battles at Danigkow, Colditz, Königswartha, Rochlitz, Ludwigsdorf, Löwenberg, Goldberg, Bunzlau, Hochkirch and Reichenbach. In January 1814 he advanced to prime lieutenant , in 1816 rose to captain and company commander and in 1833 to major and commander of the 2nd battalion (Marienburg) of the 5th Landwehr Regiment. At the beginning of 1842, Chamier was transferred to the 3rd Infantry Regiment in Königsberg, where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in March 1843 . In the late summer of 1845 he was commissioned to lead the 8th Infantry Regiment (called Leib-Infanterie-Regiment) in Frankfurt (Oder) . Chamier received the Order of the Red Eagle III in 1846 . Class with a bow, rose to colonel at the end of March and was finally appointed regimental commander on April 28, 1846. This was followed by his appointment as commander of the 13th Landwehr Brigade on January 2, 1849, until Chamier finally received his retirement as major general on April 4, 1850 .

family

Chamier married Wilhelmine Ernestine (Minna) von Ledebur (1799–1876), daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Heinrich Clamor von Ledebur (1741–1802) and Wilhelmine Friederike Louise von Rauter (1762–1840) in 1819 . The marriage resulted in two daughters:

  • Friederica Berta (Klotha) (* 1819) ⚭ 1849 Eduard Constantin von Stuckard (1805-1857)
  • Emma Wally Clara Maria (1836–1907) ⚭ 1857 Wilhelm Otto Albert Eduard von Saucken (1823–1885), heir to the Klarhof in the Allenstein district
