Friedrich Wilhelm von Rochow (born August 11, 1689 in Reckahn ; † December 22, 1759 in Golzow ), heir to Golzow, was a Prussian lieutenant general . Rochow enjoyed the trust of King Friedrich Wilhelm I as well as the Crown Prince and later King Friedrich II.

Life

His parents were Konrad Moritz von Rochow (1645–1693), heir to Rochow and Golzow, Canon of Brandenburg, and Ursula Sophia von Rochow from the Reckahn family. After attending the Knight Academy in Brandenburg , Rochow joined the Canstein cuirassier regiment on horseback in 1707 as a Junker . In the years 1707-1713 he took part in the War of the Spanish Succession in northern Italy, where he was in the service of Savoy from 1708 .

Returning to Prussia, Rochow was hired on February 21, 1719 as Rittmeister in his regiment, now Katte on horseback . On July 18, 1721, King Friedrich Wilhelm I , who valued him, promoted him to major. When the conflict with his son, Crown Prince Friedrich , came to a head in 1729 , King Rochow became the Crown Prince's companion. Rochow was involved in the events of the crisis year 1730 insofar as he always wanted to prevent the worst. The executed Hans Hermann von Katte , a son of his regimental commander Hans Heinrich von Katte , was his brother-in-law as the brother of his wife Sophie Henriette. Because of his behavior, Rochow had lost neither the king's nor the Crown Prince's trust. Friedrich Wilhelm promoted him to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1730 with a patent backdated to June 25, 1728. In October 1731 he transferred him to the Bayreuth cuirassier regiment of his son-in-law, Margrave Friedrich III , who was considered difficult . from Bayreuth . In August 1732 he gave him command of the regiment and promoted him to colonel on July 15, 1737.

After Friedrich II took office in 1740, Rochow led the regiment during the First Silesian War in the Battle of Chotusitz and so successfully that Friedrich appointed him head of the vacant cuirassier regiment of Waldow while still on the battlefield . On April 22, 1743 he promoted him to major general . Rochow also distinguished himself in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg on June 4, 1745 and was promoted to Lieutenant General on July 19, 1745. On September 30, 1745, he contributed much to the victory of thrush ; he captured the Damnitz Infantry Regiment and a battalion of Kolowrat Dragons .

In November he rode with the king's troops to Upper Lusatia and defeated the Saxon troops at Katholisch-Hennersdorf . At the end of the year he fought in the battle of Kesselsdorf . In December 1745 he received the Order of the Black Eagle for Hohenfriedberg and in April 1746 a canon post in Halberstadt . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War , Friedrich freed the already severely plagued by Podagra attacks from participating in the campaign. While Colonel Friedrich Wilhelm von Seydlitz took command of his regiment, Rochow withdrew to his Golzow estate. On October 8, 1757 , Friedrich adopted him with a pension. Rochow died on December 22, 1759 in Golzow. His crypt is located in the village church of Golzow , which was built on an artificially raised hill.
