Football 2000 ( spelling FUSSBALL 2000 ) is a video podcast by Hessischer Rundfunk , which deals with the Bundesliga soccer team Eintracht Frankfurt in episodes that appear on YouTube at least once a week . The name is reminiscent of the forward-looking offensive football that was played in Frankfurt in the early 1990s by Anthony Yeboah , Jay-Jay Okocha , Uwe Bein , Maurizio Gaudino and Andreas Möller and was then called "Football 2000".

format

The journalists Philipp Hofmeister and Mark Weidenfeller and the podcasters Marvin Mendel and Bastian Roth meet at different locations in Frankfurt and the surrounding area and exchange views on current topics and questions relating to the Frankfurt Bundesliga club. Typical locations are a downtown pub, the Bertramswiese , the airport , the Kleinmarkthalle or a tanning salon. The program usually offers a mix of factual analyzes, discussions about the past and the upcoming game of Eintracht as well as satirizing, sometimes deliberately controversial or polemical discussions about current developments around Eintracht Frankfurt , the DFB and the Bundesliga . In addition, individual episodes are also recorded immediately after the Eintracht Frankfurt games.

In contrast to simply produced video podcasts with reference to football clubs, Football 2000 is characterized by recordings usually made with several cameras and professional editing. The discussions are passionate but also factual and reflective. The mixture of the “Stammtisch atmosphere” and in-depth knowledge of the football scene gives the format a special charm. Some moderators work full-time as journalists for the Hessischer Rundfunk, including the Hessenschau . Philipp Hofmeister is known for his regular commentary on Bundesliga games on the radio. Bastian Roth has a lot of experience in the podcast field (including Drei90 , Eintracht-Podcast, Veruldt, Wettbrötchen as well as regular guest appearances on lawn radio , the Bohndesliga on Rocket Beans TV ).

The fact that football in 2000 cannot be reduced to the level of the regulars' table is shown, among other things, by an episode with the Hessischer Rundfunk court reporter Heike Borufka as a guest. Previously, the Hessian Interior Minister Peter Beuth had commented on pyro technology in the stadium and initiated a controversial police operation during a football game. He was clearly criticized for this in a speech in the Hessian state parliament. Football 2000 then dealt in this episode with both the emotions in the fan scene and the legal situation, which was explained in an understandable way and explained by factually compiled facts.

During the training camp in summer 2019, Fußball 2000 reported daily on the preparations for the 2019/20 season and produced two episodes with active full-back Timothy Chandler as a guest.

successes

Football 2000 had the greatest viral success to date with the fan song Hinti Army now for Austrian national player Martin Hinteregger with over 435,000 views (as of January 24, 2020). In the adaptation of Status Quo's song In the Army Now , actor Emanuel Raggi and a choir made up of the protagonists and fans sing about the central defender Hinteregger. It is noteworthy that just a few days before the recordings, a public call was made to spontaneously take part in the fan song. The song is therefore a real work of fans and does not reveal any commercial intentions.

After the player Martin Hinteregger signed a five-year contract with Eintracht Frankfurt on August 1, 2019 in the long anticipation of many fans , Fußball 2000 released a remake of the "Hinti Army song" with newly texted verses.

When Martin Hinteregger was awarded the Bruno Pezzey Prize as “Legionnaire of the Year”, i.e. the best Austrian player at a foreign club, on October 14, 2019 in Vienna, not only the “Hinti Army song” was played, but the Football 2000 makers and close friends sang the song live on stage during the award ceremony. This was broadcast at the same time with its own camera on a YouTube channel and was summarized in one of the next episodes of the video podcast.

The fan shirt series with "FUSSBALL 2000" prints shows that FUSSBALL 2000 has already achieved a certain cult status.

Marvin Mendel was repeatedly invited to television interviews as a football expert and fan community.

Dissemination and media attention

Even if the video podcast initially only seemed to be aimed at a small group of football fans of the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt , it quickly attracted attention beyond the Rhine-Main region and even has subscribers in the USA. The daily newspapers Frankfurter Rundschau and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported extensively on Football 2000 . Above all, the above-mentioned fan song about Martin Hinteregger quickly received increased media attention.
