Fu Yuanhui ( Chinese  傅园慧 , Pinyin Fù Yuánhuì ; born January 7, 1996 in Hangzhou , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese swimmer . Fu is studying movement rehabilitation at Tianjin Medical University in China.

Career

In August 2011, Fu won a silver medal in the 100 m back and a bronze medal in the 200 m freestyle at the Youth Swimming World Championships in Lima , Peru . She also reached 8th place over 200 m back. With the Chinese 4 × 100 m freestyle relay she reached 7th place. In October 2011, she won the Chinese 100m back swimming championship at the Jiangxi Olympic Sports Center in Nanchang . At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she took part in the 100 m back swimming competition and reached eighth place in the final. At the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona , she won the silver medal over 50 m back. She placed fifth over 100 m back in the finals and fourth with the Chinese relay over 4 × 100 m individual medley. In September 2014 she won two gold medals at the Asian Games , over 50 m back in 27.66 seconds and over 100 m back in 59.95 seconds. At the 2015 World Swimming Championships in Kazan , she won the gold medal in the 50 m backstroke and also the gold medal with the Chinese swimming relay in 4 × 100 m individual medley. Over 100 m back she reached 4th place in the final.

2016 Summer Olympics

At the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Fu won the bronze medal over 100 m back with a new Chinese record , which she shared with the Kylie crowd at the same time . After qualifying for the final as third in her semi-finals and setting a new personal best with 58.95 seconds, her happy interview made her very popular on the Chinese Internet. In a live stream interview two days after the competition, it reached more than 10 million viewers. With the Chinese 4 × 100 m individual relay, she reached fourth place: In an interview about this competition, Fu mentioned that her menstruation has a negative effect on her performance, which earned her worldwide attention for addressing a taboo subject.

Asian Swimming Championships 2016
