Radio tower Groß Reken Melchenberg

About 115 m north of the hilltop stands the radio tower Groß Reken Melchenberg ( 132  m ) between trees on the edge of the forest , which is both a mobile radio transmission tower and an observation tower . It is a 60 m high steel lattice tower, which has a viewing platform ( 162  m ) at a height of 30 m that can be reached via a staircase with 168 steps .

The tower was opened for public inspection on June 11, 2002 and has been open every day until dusk since then (except for days in winter below 0 ° C, due to the risk of slipping). Since February 1, 2011, binoculars that can be used free of charge have been attached to the platform, providing a panoramic view of almost 180 ° to the south. In this direction you can see the municipality of Reken and, on clear days, to the Ruhr area , where several heaps can be made out. In addition, the Baumberge and Borkenberge and two towers of the Münster University Hospital can be seen in the Münsterland .

Reinforced concrete transmission tower Melchenberg
