Futureworld - The Land of Tomorrow is an American science fiction film that was released in the USA in 1976 and in Germany on April 21, 1977 . Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner play the leading roles .

The film is the sequel to the 1973 film Westworld .

Two years after a disaster in the amusement park “Delos”, in which guests and employees were killed by androids that got out of control, the facility has reopened. A lot of money has been invested to determine the cause of the disaster and to replace all androids and technical facilities in order to rule out such disasters in the future. The amusement park was also changed as a whole. The western world, from which the misfortune originated at the time, has been shut down. That is why the Futureworld was created, a future world in which you can control a spaceship or visit other planets. With modern technology these things are simulated very real. An Asian East World is also planned.

Chuck Browning, a newspaper reporter who reported negatively on Delos after the disaster, is called by a man named Frenchy, a former theme park employee. He has an interesting story for Chuck and arranges a meeting with him in town. When the two meet, Frenchy can only pronounce the word "Delos" before he collapses and dies. Somebody stabbed him fatally at the busy meeting point of the two. In the envelope he has with him, Chuck discovers a list of high-ranking managers, politicians, and other influential figures. They were all guests in Delos after the reopening, as he later finds out. But it is already clear to him that something is going wrong in Delos and that Frenchy knew something about it.

Mr. Duffy, the theme park manager, would like to regain the public trust that was lost in the catastrophe that took place at the time. Therefore he offers the representatives of the media to visit Delos for a few days and take a look behind the scenes. In return, he expects fair and objective reporting. He explains his concern in a conference at which Chuck and the idiosyncratic television presenter Tracy Ballard are also present. The two were once a couple until Chuck kicked Tracy out of his company. Despite all the complaints with her boss, Tracy cannot avoid spending a week in Delos with Chuck. Ultimately, however, both are still in love with each other and strive for a reconciliation.

In Delos, the two mingle with the guests in the Futureworld and are then allowed to take a look behind the scenes. Chuck is soon noticed by his distrust. Tracy doesn't like this at all as she would like to come back with a camera crew. Dr. Schneider, who is responsible for the androids and all the technology, has a problem with Chuck's curiosity, especially when Chuck visits the technical facilities on his own in the middle of the night to find out something. Tracy is reluctant to come along so that nothing happens to him. Eventually the two unintentionally trigger an alarm and are brought to safety by Harry, a member of staff. The two start a brief conversation with Harry until Dr. Schneider appears with the security staff and accompanies them back to their sleeping quarters.

Chuck gets into conversation with Harry again and tells him about Frenchy's murder. Harry does not want to comment at first, but then shows Chuck an electronically secured entrance to a hall, accessible through the only door in Delos to which he has no access. The two soon find out that it is not enough to enter the code number on the door lock, but that a green lamp reads information from the androids' eyes so that only they can open the door. Harry paralyzes a maintenance android and dismantles its face in order to trick the security system. Chuck, Tracy and Harry now look around the mysterious hall and make a terrible discovery: there, duplicates of living people are produced in a laboratory in order to exchange influential personalities and thus to achieve world domination at some point.

It is to be feared that the people on Frenchy's list have already been exchanged for doppelgangers. Now the doppelgangers of Russian General Karnowsky, Japanese politician Takaguchi and, to control the media, Tracy and Chuck are made. The doppelgangers are not conventional androids, but artificial creatures that were created based on the genetic information of their originals. To do this, drugs were mixed into the people's food in order to examine them unnoticed in a laboratory at night. The doppelgangers can no longer be distinguished from their originals.

Tracy and Chuck are in serious danger and want to flee. You are threatened by Mr. Duffy, but you can overpower him and discover that he is an android too. Then the two are mercilessly chased by their doppelgangers, but they can eventually overwhelm them. Before that, Harry, who also wanted to flee, is killed by Chuck's doppelganger. Tracy and Chuck convince each other with a deep kiss that they are not doppelgangers. Dr. Schneider, to whom they can prove that the originals have been removed. Only when the two disappear through the exit and Tracy's doppelganger collapses in front of him does Dr. Schneider that Tracy and Chuck are still alive. By telephone, the two ensure that the public is informed and that the authorities can take action.
