The annual G! Festival on Syðrugøta Beach , Faroe Islands is the country's largest open-air music festival alongside Summarfestivalur . The name G! is not derived from the municipality of Gøta , but from an SMS code that was common among members of the earlier band.

The initiator is the former Clickhaze musician Jón Tyril , who is now the festival's music director and press spokesman.

The festival first took place in 2002 and was the first open air festival in the Faroe Islands. With 1,000 visitors, it was considered the most successful music event in the history of the Faroe Islands . In 2005 there were 6,000 visitors and in 2007 between 7,000 and 8,000 (the Faroe Islands have 48,000 inhabitants). Since Syðrugøta lies in a sheltered bay with a sandy beach, many visitors come with their boats.

The G! In 2005, the festival received the Mentanarvirðisløn MA Jacobsens (national culture award) in the person of Jón Tyril .

The 2006 festival took place from July 20th to July 22nd. Well-known international guests will include Kaizers Orchestra (NO), Mugison (IS), Outlandish (DK) and Beth Hart (USA). Faroese stars are u. a. Eivør Pálsdóttir , Teitur Lassen , Høgni Lisberg , 200 , Makrel and Annika Hoydal .
