Günter Grell (politician)

Günter Grell (born January 11, 1926 in Lichterfelde , Oberbarnim district ; † April 28, 1997 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German party functionary ( SED ). He was the second secretary of the Frankfurt (Oder) district leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED).

Life

Grell, son of a working-class family, attended elementary school and completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk. In 1943 he was first drafted into the Reich Labor Service and then in the same year for military service in the Wehrmacht . He was captured in 1944 and remained in British and American captivity until 1947 .

After his release he worked as a farm worker in 1947, then from 1947 to 1951 as an employee of the Oberbarnim social insurance fund in Finow and Finowfurt . In 1949 he joined the SED. In 1951/52 he was a clerk at VEB Pipeline and Apparatus Construction Finow and from 1952 to 1954 secretary of the company party organization at VEB Walzwerk Finow. 1954/55 he studied at the district party school in Beeskow , from 1955 to 1960 he was then assistant, teacher and head of department at the district party school in Eberswalde . Between 1955 and 1964 he completed a correspondence course at the party college "Karl Marx" at the Central Committee of the SED with a degree in social science. From 1960 to 1962 he acted as secretary for agitation and propaganda of the SED district leadership in Eberswalde. From 1962 to 1966 he was first secretary of the SED district leadership in Bernau . Between 1966 and 1968 he studied at the University of Economics in Berlin-Karlshorst . He completed his studies with a degree in economics.

From 1968 to 1971 he acted as first secretary of the Eisenhüttenstadt district leadership of the SED. From May 23, 1971 to November 15, 1989 he was second secretary of the Frankfurt (Oder) district leadership of the SED (successor to Hans-Joachim Hertwig ). From November 1971 he was a member of the Frankfurt (Oder) district assembly .

In February 1976 Grell met with the chairman of the Communist Party of Norway , Martin Gunnar Knutsen, during his visit to the Oder district for a friendly exchange of ideas.

In February 1990 Grell was called to account for infidelity to the detriment of socialist property with a fine of 7,000 marks . It had been proven to him that in the years from 1985 onwards he had employees do various work for a bungalow construction company during paid working hours without having paid for these services.
