In the 50th minute he scored the 2-1 lead for the "Kleeblatt" -Elf, but was sent off in his first association game for RWO in the 86th minute. The man from Sterkrade came on 14 missions with four goals and Oberhausen took 3rd place at the end of the round. The 0: 1 away defeat on April 28, 1968 at Rot-Weiss Essen was decisive for missing the entry into the promotion round. In his second season, 1968/69, he won the championship under the new coach Alfred Preißler and after passing the promotion round Karbowiak rose - he had played all eight promotion games - with RWO in the Bundesliga. For the last season of the old second-rate regional league, 1973/74 , Karbowiak joined the Südwest TuS Neuendorf regional football league . The round ended in a disappointing 12th place and he had scored four goals in 24 games.

With the start of the 2nd Bundesliga , 1974/75, he signed a new contract with Preußen Münster and moved to the Preußen Stadium on Hammer Strasse. The player, who is now in midfield, played a total of 92 second division games (7 goals) in three rounds for Preußen Münster.
