Günther Abendroth (born August 16, 1920 in Berlin ; † January 10, 1993 there ) was a German SPD politician .

Life

Abendroth studied chemistry at the TU Berlin . After the Second World War he joined the IG Chemie and the SPD. From 1948 to 1958 he was a district councilor in Berlin-Wilmersdorf . Subsequently, it was for a term of the Member Berlin House of Representatives . In January 1963, Abendroth became district mayor of Kreuzberg until he gave up this office in 1975. In November 1980, he replaced Gerd Wartenberg, a member of the Bundestag, in the House of Representatives.

Since 1961, Abendroth was chairman of the "Freie Volksbühne" Berlin .

In 1989, Abendroth received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class , and a year later he was honored as the city ​​elder of Berlin .

Günther Abendroth died in January 1993 at the age of 72 in Berlin. His final resting place in the Wilmersdorf cemetery (grave location: D 16-UW 23) is dedicated to the State of Berlin as an honorary grave .
