Their entire catchment area is 112 km². On this way it runs through the districts of Dachau , Aichach-Friedberg and Neuburg-Schrobenhausen . As far as the village of the same name, Weilach, the stream meanders largely close to nature, after which the creek bed of the river is straightened.

Tributaries

Landscape and land use

The Weilach flows through the Danube-Isar hill country in a sole valley . Adjacent meadows and fields are farmed intensively, especially in the lower reaches. One consequence of this is that ecologically relevant guide values for nutrient inputs such as nitrate and phosphate are exceeded . Sufficiently wide bank margins are usually missing.

fauna

After its extinction in the 19th century, the beaver ( Castor fiber ) has been populating the entire Weilach again for several years. In the unpolluted smaller tributaries there are still specimens of endangered species such as river mussels ( Unio Crassus ) and stone crabs ( Austropotamobius torrentium ).

flora

The tree population is mainly characterized by black alder ( Alnus glutinosa ) and willow species, which are just as typical for these locations as the reed (Phragmites australis) or the marsh marigold ( Caltha palustris ).
