Raumpatrouille Orion - throwback to the cinema is a German film based on the television series Raumpatrouille - The fantastic adventures of the spaceship Orion . It opened in theaters on July 24, 2003.

The movie, which was supposed to build on the success of the television series, is a compilation of the seven episodes of the series. The series has been repeated several times in recent years, especially in the third ARD programs . Occasionally Raumpatrouille was also broadcast by private television stations .

In the movie, the “Sternenschau” with the spokeswoman Helma Krap, played by Elke Heidenreich , was incorporated in the form of cutscenes. Helma Krap reads out news reports, some of which anticipate the plot of the film. The film only takes into account three of the seven Orion adventures: "Attack from Space", "Planet Out of Course" and "Invasion". However, excerpts from other episodes were also inserted into the story. Some scenes were also cut out of the three episodes used.

Peter Thomas , the composer of the original theme song, partly rearranged his compositions for the film. The intro spoken by Claus Biederstaedt in the series is spoken by Ben Becker . There are some inconsistencies in the actors' costumes as successive scenes in the film are not from the same original sequence.

The actual film has the same title as the series: Raumpatrouille - The fantastic adventures of the Orion spaceship . The propagated title Raumpatrouille Orion - Fall back into the cinema is only shown in smaller font in the credits.

Oddities

For the term "Frogs" for enemy aliens, the term was subsequently " F eindliche R aumverbände O sons G alaktische S eriennummer" invented. This contradicts the explanation of the origin of the name in the first episode of the Raumpatrouille series. In this first episode, astrogator Atan Shubashi explains that the "Frogs" were initially christened "Frogs" by the Orion crew, but this sounded too familiar, so that they were ultimately named "Frogs".

Likewise, the dance in the casino, which was not named in the series, was given the name “Galyxo” for the film.

criticism

“Faucets packed in aluminum as fittings props, plastic cups as ceiling decorations, irons as weapons, tailored suits and hairstyles, futuristic sounds from Peter Thomas' sound orchestra, hollow dialogues and a story about the survival of humanity and the overkilling of opponents. Technically processed for the cinema, everyone can now convince themselves why the science fiction series has long enjoyed cult status, mainly because of the involuntary comedy. New: Elke Heidenreich as 'Sternenschau' presenter Helma Krap. "
