Gaoual is a prefecture in the Boké region in Guinea with about 157,000 inhabitants. Like all Guinean prefectures, it is named after its capital, Gaoual .

geography

The prefecture is located in the northwest of the country on the border with Guinea-Bissau and covers an area of ​​11,500 km². The mostly hilly savannah landscape lies between the cities of Boké, Labé, Télimélé and Koundara and is shaped by the Koumba and Nomo rivers.

population

The majority of the population consists of Muslim Fulani (Peul), Landuma and Tyapi.

economy

The region lives mainly from agriculture. Cattle are kept and peanuts, rice, millet and cotton are grown. In Gaoual, which has a population of about 6,400, agricultural products and products for daily needs are for sale. There are also mineral deposits of bauxite and iron ore that have been discovered.
