Télimélé (prefecture)
Télimélé is a prefecture in the region Kindia in Guinea with about 282,000 inhabitants. Like all Guinean prefectures, it is named after its capital, Télimélé .
geography
The prefecture is more in the west of the country and also in the west of the hilly Fouta Djallon and covers an area of 8,080 km². The city of Télimélé, which had 11,000 inhabitants in 1996, is 170 kilometers north of the capital Conakry, which can be reached via Kindia or Kaletta.
population
The residents are mostly Muslim Fulani (Peul).
economy
The prefecture is heavily influenced by agriculture; rice, millet and fruit are grown and cattle is raised. The Téliméle market sells local agricultural products and sells household items and tools. Cattle are also transported to Conakry for sale.
