Gebr. Becker (Gebrüder Becker) is a company based in the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal . It develops and manufactures components for vacuum and compressed air technology, especially vacuum pumps , compressors and air supply systems. In addition to companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sector, customers also include end users such as hospitals and printing companies.

history

In 1885 the Gebr. Becker machine factory was founded by the brothers Otto and Robert Becker in Barmen (now part of Wuppertal). The company initially had four employees and supplied the local chemical, mining and textile industries with specially made agitators, conveyor reels and textile machines. In 1915 Otto Beckers' son of the same name joined the company and concentrated on developments in the field of vacuum and compressed air , for which he was also able to register important patents. For example, suction pumps for driving on-board instruments in the aircraft industry were developed up to 1928. Meanwhile, a new plant has been built in the Wichlinghausen district . After the Second World War , the production plant was dismantled and production prohibited. Two years later, a new beginning was started under the new name Gebläse- und Pumpenbau GmbH .

In 1951 Hansjürgen Becker joined the company and devoted himself to building up an international sales network. In addition, together with his father, he intensified the development of oil-free rotary and side-channel compressors . From 1960 the company was again operating under the original name Gebr. Becker Maschinenfabrik . In 1971 the new plant in the industrial area next breck went into operation. At that time, over a million Becker devices were in use worldwide. With Becker Pumps Corp. The first subsidiary started operations in 1975 in Cuyahoga Falls near Akron ( Ohio , United States ).

In 1981, all of the production facilities and the administration were combined in a new building complex at the plant in Niederebreck. Two years later, the second subsidiary, Becker UK , was founded in Hull ( Great Britain ) . In 1985 the company was one of the international leaders in the field of vacuum and compressed air. In 1987, Becker France was founded in Rambouillet ( France ) as the third subsidiary. A year later, the company delivered the first RV 2.23 laser blower for gas circulation in CO 2 lasers at a speed of 30,000 / min.

In 1990, Martin Becker joined the company's management in the fourth generation of the founding family. From 1991 onwards, Becker became increasingly international and created several subsidiaries: 1991 Becker Italia , 1994 Becker Switzerland and Becker Air Techno (Japan), 1997 Becker Druk- en Vacuümpompen (Netherlands) and Becker Vakuumteknik (Sweden), 1998 Becker Asia Pacific (Singapore) and 1999 Becker Danmark . At the same time, a network of international agencies was established. In 1996 Becker opened a branch in Rutesheim in Baden-Württemberg for southern Germany. In the same year the first newly developed VARIAIR system (VAS) was delivered, followed two years later by the VADS system with screw vacuum pumps without transmission gears .

In 1999 a production plant was built in Apolda, Thuringia , which today employs around 130 people. In 2001 the eleventh subsidiary was founded with Becker Iberica near Madrid ( Spain ). In 2003 the company also expanded into the South Korean region with Becker-Korea . In the anniversary year 2005, the two millionth device, a VT 4.40 , was delivered. Gebr. Becker GmbH was created by transforming the legal form of Gebr. Becker GmbH & Co. In the same year, another subsidiary was founded with Becker Vacuum and Air Equipments ( China ).

In 2006 the company already had more than 650 employees in Germany and in its foreign subsidiaries. Up until 2007, an average of ten trainees were hired at the German locations each year. This commitment was honored with the Bergisch Training Prize. The following year, the 14th subsidiary, Becker Polska, was founded. In 2010 the company celebrated its 125th anniversary in Wuppertal. In 2011 Martin and Karolina Becker founded the coworking space workspace Pasche Penthouse in Wuppertal Elberfeld for product and project development.

In 2013 Dorothee Becker joined the group's management. In 2014, the Stifterverband researching companies eV recognized the group of companies for their special responsibility, which they assume for the state and society, by awarding them the seal of innovation through research . In 2016, the company was named the winner of the Wuppertal Business Prize in the “Company of the Year” category .
