Gechi ( Russian Гехи ; Chechen ГихтӀа ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia with 11,744 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 25 km as the crow flies southwest of the republic capital Grozny on the river Gechi of the same name , a right tributary of the Sunscha .

Gechi belongs to Rajon Urus-Martanowski and is located about 7 km north-west of the administrative center of Urus-Martan . The village is the seat and only locality of the rural community Gechinskoje selskoje posselenije.

history

The year the village was founded is unknown. It was mentioned in connection with the destruction of the Chechen Aule Urus-Martan, Goity and Gechi by Russian troops in January 1825, during the Caucasus War of 1817-1864 . During the period of deportation of the Chechen population from 1944 to 1957, the village was called Blagodatnoye in Russian .

Gechi is located on the regional road coming from Assinovskaya via Achchoi-Martan  - Qatar-Yurt and then via Urus-Martan and Goity to Staryje Atagi . From Gechi to the north, a cross-connection leads to the parallel federal highway R217 Kawkas (formerly M29), which runs parallel to the north and connects Pavlovskaya in the Krasnodar region along the northern edge of the Caucasus with the Azerbaijani border. Regional roads lead from Gechi to the south and southwest roads to the villages of Gechi-Tschu and Schalaschi .
