Gediz is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Kütahya . The city is located about 70 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Kütahya .
The district is located in the south of the province. It is bordered by Şaphane County to the west, Simav and Hisarcık counties to the northwest , Emet county to the north, Çavdarhisar county to the north-east, Aslanapa and Altıntaş counties to the east, and Uşak province to the south . The district town is on the D240 highway, which runs from Bergama on the Aegean coast to Kütahya. In the north of the district lies part of the Şaphane Dagı mountain range . In the east of the Murat Dağı district , the Gediz river of the same name , the ancient Hermos, flows into the Aegean Sea north of Izmir .
In 1970 an earthquake struck the region in which the city was completely destroyed and then rebuilt.
In addition to the district town, the district consists of three other municipalities ( Belediye ): Eskigediz (3,403), Gökler (2,357) and Yenikent (2,461 inhabitants) as well as 57 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 324 inhabitants. Erdoğmuş (1,489), Fırdan (1,271), Altınkent (1,032), Üzümlü (1,013) and Gümele (970 inh .) Are the largest villages.
