Simav is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Kütahya . The city is located about 100 kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Kütahya .
The district is located in the west of the province. It is bordered by Tavşanlı County to the north, Emet and Hisarcık counties to the east, Gediz , Şaphane and Pazarlar counties to the southeast , and Manisa and Balıkesir provinces to the west .
The district town is on the D240 highway, which runs from Bergama on the Aegean coast to Kütahya. From this the D595 branches off in Simav, which leads north past the İznik Gölü to the Gulf of İzmit in the Sea of Marmara . The river Simav Çayı , the ancient Makestos , flows north of the city and flows into the Sea of Marmara under the name Çapraz Çay . About six kilometers northwest of the city lies the dried up lake Simav Gölü (also Denizgölü ). The Eğrigöz Dağı mountain range begins in the north of the river, while the Simav Dağları (ancient Temnos ) with the 1696-meter-high Bayrak Tepe lie in the south .
In addition to the county seat, the district consists of six other Belediye (municipalities): Akdağ (2,112), Çitgöl (3,513), Demirci (2,655), Güney (1,663), Kuşu (2,294) and Naşa (1,943 inh .). There are also 83 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 284 residents. Beyce (1,504), Yemişli (1,102), Yeşilköy (966), Yeniköy (886), Yeşildere (851) and Kestel (832 inh .) Are the largest villages. Attractions
On the south bank of the Simav Gölü near Gölköy are ruins, called Boğazköy Kalesi , which may be attributed to the ancient city of Ankyra .
