Yellow is not just the color of the sun is a German crime film by Rainer Bär from 1979 . The television film was originally planned as part of the Polizeiruf 110 series , but was eventually broadcast as a single film.

action

Ten-year-old Brigitte is on vacation with her father Peter on the Baltic Sea. Her little brother is with grandma and the mother has to work. The vacation days are harmonious because the daughter and father get on very well. He jokingly calls her “princess”, they often go swimming and Brigitte keeps a diary about their vacation together. Every now and then they both find that they are missing the other two family members, but it hardly spoils the holiday. One day her beach chair is occupied by a strange woman. The young beauty introduces herself to them as Miss Lorenz and reports that she is sailing with her brother and boyfriend on the Baltic Sea. She leaves after a short time, but forgets her sunglasses. Brigitte and Peter look for them in the marina and Miss Lorenz shows them the boat. In the following years, Peter, Brigitte and Miss Lorenz spend more and more holidays together, but Brigitte soon feels left out. Her father no longer dedicates the time to her as he used to and the child suspects that Peter might start an affair with Miss Lorenz. The initial cordiality turns into aggression. More and more often Brigitte reacts negatively to Miss Lorenz, destroys gifts she gave her, insults her in her absence and finally bursts into tears. Her father does not recognize the cause of the aggression and concludes that she is ill, but the doctor cannot diagnose any illness. Peter is changing a tire and has only loosely tightened the nuts on the new tire when he is called to the phone in the local post office. His wife is on the line. Brigitte wants to go with them, but due to her health, she should stay in the house. Brigitte accuses her father of not being allowed to speak to her mother because of Miss Lorenz, and Peter is shocked. In Peter's absence, Miss Lorenz appears and, as agreed some time beforehand, borrows the car for an errand trip. Brigitte does not warn her that the wheel is not tight.

A year later, a lieutenant in the criminal investigation department anonymously received a girl's diary. Some pages are missing, so the identity of the writer is not known. In addition to reports on vacation days, the diary also contains drawings. Among other things, they show a lighthouse, but also a yellow car falling from a cliff. Based on this picture, the lieutenant's superior decided that he should investigate the possible case at the beginning of his Baltic vacation. His boss suspects that the picture has only sprung from the girl's imagination. In fact, the investigator can locate the lighthouse that Brigitte, Peter and Miss Lorenz had visited. Peter had forgotten his camera, which the investigator took. He lets the images develop. Using the photos, he can locate the marina where he sees Miss Lorenz working on her boat. He now thinks that the picture he painted was really just a fantasy. The Section Authorized Person (ABV) explains to him that there actually was such an accident last year: When Miss Lorenz drove off with the car, she met Peter after a short distance, who took over the car. His wife had told him that she was already waiting for him at the train station and that she wanted to spend the rest of the holidays with him and Brigitte. Peter makes it clear to Miss Lorenz that their vacation together is now over, especially since Brigitte made ugly hints. It's Peter who crashed in the car. On the cliff the wheel comes loose and the car falls down the coast and explodes. The lieutenant asks the ABV for the address of the mother and daughter, even if the case has already been closed.

production

Yellow is not just the color of the sun. It was filmed from June 5 to August 5, 1978 in Wustrow , Ahrenshoop , Prerow , Wismar and Caputh . The costumes come from Ute Rossberg , the film structures were created by Günther Möller . The film had its television premiere on June 24, 1979. The lieutenant investigating in the film is not named. Actor Werner Tietze played Lieutenant Woltersdorf in the police call at that time, so that the investigating lieutenant is usually equated with Lieutenant Woltersdorf, who took on his fifth case. Karl-Ernst Sasse supported the film as musical advisor. The 21st Piano Concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart can be heard .

The film was originally produced as a result of the TV series Polizeiruf 110 , but was broadcast out of series. He belongs with it, like the films:

to the police call episodes produced which, for various reasons, were not included in the police call series or were not allowed to be broadcast.
