geography

Gellmersbach is located in the Gellmer valley, a tributary of the Eberbach, which in turn flows into the Sulm , and thus in a side valley of the Weinsberger valley. The next places are just a few kilometers away, the communities Eberstadt and Erlenbach , Lennach, which belongs to Eberstadt, and the town of Weinsberg. The Klinikum am Weissenhof is located directly across the former boundary of Weinsberg .

history

The oldest archaeological finds on Gellmersbacher district date from the Bronze Age . Gellmersbach was first mentioned in a document from around 1235/36 about the donation of a vineyard to the Schöntal monastery .

The deed was confirmed by the Lords of Weinsberg , who originally owned the place. In 1335 they sold half of the town to Kurmainz , who in 1484 resold the town to the Teutonic Order . In 1805 this half, which belonged to the Ballei Franken , came to Württemberg with other possessions of the Teutonic Order . The other half was initially pledged to the Electoral Palatinate by the von Weinsberg family in 1412 , and finally sold in 1450. Together with Weinsberg, this half of the town came to Württemberg in 1504. During the Peasants' War , Gellmersbach was destroyed by troops of the Swabian Federation on May 21, 1525 and was only allowed to be rebuilt after months at the beginning of winter.

During the implementation of the new administrative structure in the Kingdom of Württemberg , Gellmersbach was assigned to the Oberamt Weinsberg in 1806 with its old Württemberg half expanded by the half of the Teutonic Order gained through secularization . In 1926 Gellmersbach came to the Oberamt Heilbronn after the dissolution of the Oberamt Weinsberg , from which the district of the same name emerged in 1938 . Since the place had become part of the American occupation zone after the Second World War , it had belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden since 1945 , which was incorporated into the current state of Baden-Württemberg in 1952. After an initial rejection, the Gellmersbach municipal council decided on December 7th, 1974 unanimously in favor of the voluntary integration into the city of Weinsberg, which took place on January 1st, 1975 as part of the local reform.

Religions

Gellmersbach has its own parish in the Weinsberg-Neuenstadt parish of the Württemberg regional church, the Evangelical Church Community of Gellmersbach . In 1465 the Leonhardskirche was first mentioned in a warehouse book in the Palatinate. At that time, Gellmersbach was divided in the manor: the district south of the Gellmer belonged to the German Order, the northern part to the diocese of Mainz, with the respective interest obligation. From the introduction of the Reformation in 1535 to 1843, Gellmersbach was a branch of Eberstadt, only then did the place receive its own pastor.

The Catholic parish of St. Josef Weinsberg is responsible for Catholic Christians.

politics

Local council and local council

Two seats are reserved for representatives of Gellmersbach in the Weinsberg municipal council. Since Weinsberg chooses part of the town after the Unechte , the Gellmersbach representatives are not only elected by the inhabitants of Gellmersbach, but by all the Weinsbergers.

At every local election, a local council with six members is elected by the eligible population of Gellmersbach , who can be heard on important matters affecting the locality. Since the 2009 election, the Free Voters' Association Weinsberg 1950 (FWV) and the CDU have each been represented by three members in the Gellmersbach local council. There were no other nominations other than FWV or CDU.

Mayor and mayor

At the suggestion of Ortschaftsrats out of Weinberger council elects a volunteer for each village mayor . In Gellmersbach this has been Siegfried Stegherr since 2004 (status: 2009).

Stegherr's predecessor until 1989 was Ludwig Bauer (* November 16, 1919 - June 6, 2006), who was mayor from 1946 to 1974 and Gellmersbach's mayor from 1975 to 1989. On December 11, 1974, he was made an honorary citizen by the community of Gellmersbach. Successor Bauer as mayor from 1989 to 2004 was Kurt Diedel.

The coat of arms of Gellmersbach

badges and flags

The Gellmersbach coat of arms shows: In a shield split by red and silver, a sixteen-link chain in mixed up colors. The flag colors of Gellmersbach are white and red.

Until 1956, the community seal showed the representation of the local church. As early as 1939, the archive management raised the objection that this was not a real heraldic figure, and proposed a coat of arms to the community that, as a reference to the chain around the Gellmersbacher Leonhardskirche in gold, should show a black iron chain placed at an angle to the left and a black horseshoe above and below it. Only in 1956, however, did the community accept the depicted coat of arms, which shows the chain of the Leonhardskirche in a split shield, which is supposed to remind of the centuries-long division of the place, at a renewed objection from the archive management. The red and white colors are those of the gentlemen von Weinsberg.

Culture and sights

Buildings

In addition to some half-timbered houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, the Protestant Gellmersbacher Leonhardskirche , a chain church, is of particular interest in Gellmersbach . It was built in 1544 after the introduction of the Reformation in Gellmersbach (1535) on the foundations of an earlier church building from the 12th or 13th century that fell victim to the Peasants' War of 1525. Remnants of this building can still be seen in today's church. The church was expanded in 1667 and 1749 and was last renovated in 1952, 1976 and 2012.

societies

The most important clubs in Gellmersbach are the singer association Gellmersbach and the country women’s club Gellmersbach, the riding club Gellmersbach, the shooting club Gellmersbach and the sport friends Gellmersbach.

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

Gellmersbach is connected to Eberstadt, Erlenbach and Weinsberg by district roads. The next connection to the motorway network is in Weinsberg, as is the next train station (on the Crailsheim – Heilbronn railway line , with a connection to the Heilbronn light rail ). Local public transport is handled by buses.

Viticulture

Gellmersbach is a traditional wine-growing place. The former Gellmersbach winegrowers' cooperative was merged into the Eberstadt WG in 1995; there are still some private wineries. The Gellmersbacher Wein- und Sektkellerei Horst Stengel was awarded the DLG award for best sparkling wine producer in 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2008 . This highest award of the DLG for a sparkling wine producer requires that at least half of all sparkling wines of the producer were employed for the award and received top ratings.

Water supply

Gellmersbach has been supplied with drinking water by the Eberbach water supply group in Eberstadt since 1927/28. Due to capacity problems of this group, the place was connected to the Bodensee water supply on December 1, 1978 from Weinsberg .

education

Gellmersbach had its own state primary school, but as of 2009 there were not enough students from Gellmersbach to continue operating. The first graders were therefore enrolled in the Weinsberger Grundschule Rossäcker from the school year 2009/2010 , the elementary school was closed in 2011. The Lichtenstern elementary school has existed in Gellmersbach since 2012 , a Protestant all-day elementary school run by the Lichtenstern Evangelical Foundation for children with and without disabilities, which has been a state-recognized substitute school since December 2015 . Secondary schools for the Gellmersbach students are in Weinsberg.
